Purpose

For a meaningful exploration of the dynamics of jointed structures the CAE engineer often has to make a decision on the modeling depth of the contact interfaces.

As the constituting nonlinear relations are expected to increase the computational effort tremendously these relations are often linearized to lower the computational burden. As consequence the subsequent numerical simulations, and more important the results, only represent the linear structural dynamics. This may either lead to over engineered structures or may lead to underestimated peak stresses and failing physical prototypes.

The MAMBA software package paves the way for a simulation process for the nonlinear dynamics of jointed structures. The underlying nonlinear model order reduction keeps the computational effort manageable while the consideration of contact stresses within the contact interfaces ensures good result accuracy. Even optimization loops comprising several subsequent dynamic simulations can be carried out within reasonable time.
